Left Noumea 9:00 am, headed for Dumbea right 4 ft swell.
The boys all hit the right at high tide, good fun. We then went to Dumbea left
& it was on, a very nice left, hollow & fast. Chris, Dyker & Dave
had a good session. Headed for Ille Ngu for the night. Dinner was wicked curry.
Wind was glassy all day – no trade winds

Wind: N/e early then glass till 2.00 pm then s/e 10 kts
Spent the
night: Ille Ducos
Dave
caught a large cod & a flag early with little mullet as bait. 5:30 am sailed
out to to dumbea right. Not very good so we headed out for the left which was
pretty good. Most of the boys hit it with a couple of frenchies, pretty good. We
then hit the right. All the boys hit it, except gurto, including becky on her
boogie board. Surfed till 12.30, still glassy, swell picking up. Motored up
inside the lagoon to st vincents. Hooked a jobfish along the way on gurtos
rapala . Got to St Vincents around 3.30 pm, big but a little messy as the s/e
trade was into it. The boys decided it was beer o‘clock so we headed for Ille
Ducos for the night. On the way in Tex hooked onto a massive Giant Trevally at
sunset some 12 kg or more. A very happy man. Dinner of tuna, chilli & pasta.

20/06/03
Wind: Glassy till 9.30 then s/e trades to 15 knts
Spent
night: Ille Lebris
Chris,
Dyker & Dave surfed St. Vincents 4 to 6 ft,
good fun waves, big walls &
take offs, no one else interested. Wind came up so we set sail for Ouano checking out Tenia along
the way, but it was wind affected. Chris hooked onto something very large, but
it broke off his favorite lure. He was pissed off. Sailed on to Ouano & the
boys had a reasonable cross shore session. Swell building. Perenti turned up
around 3.00 pm and joined us for a surf. Dinner of Jobfish, coral trout,
trevally,
salad & chips. The fish was cooked & battered by gurto & dyker.

Saturday

Wind:
Light n/e 5/10 knts, then glassy after noon till 3 pm then s/e trades to 10
knots
Spent
night: Ouano township
Sailed out to Ouano in the morning 5 knots east/ north
east winds 4 -6 foot clean swell. Swell building. Very good conditions. All boys
went out including myself. Low tide in the morning producing awesome sucky
waves. Chris & dyker kept referring to the take off as Caupoo in Tahiti. As
the tide rose the swell kept picking up producing an excellent session. The
weekend saw a few local boys out in their dingies. Perenti was there as well.
The wind picked up late but still was very surfable Sailed into ouano township
for the evening. Went ashore to the local bar/restaurant for a beer, but it was
very quiet. Chris, Zam, Tex, Rob, Lloyd &
myself took the dingy over to the lagoon & fed a reef shark on the
carcass of the jobfish & trevally. Dinner of half a stuffed chicken each
& garlic beans, carrots & chips. The boys were stoked.

Sunday
22/06/03
Wind:
east 5 knots easterly then glass all
afternoon
Spent
Night: Ille Lebris
Sailed out to ouano for an epic all time good surf 6
-8 foot clean offshore no one around, perenti went to the right at the wreck
& so did the locals, they seem to like the smaller right handers. Low tide
in the morning was the best with hell pits, scary take offs & long rides
with walls, pits & steep sections. This is as good as it gets perfect ouano
& only three of us out. Me, chris & dyker. The other boys had
reservations and stayed on the boat. Later on two hot locals training for the
pacific games came out, shook our hands & surfed with us. Very friendly
people ( who said the French were arrogant ? ) It cranked all day, I surfed 3
sessions with 1 hour break in between, zam & dyker had 1 long session then 1
short session, chris had 1 session, tex had 1 wave and snapped his board -
pissed off. Rob, Chris & Dyker went for a tank dive & saw huge brain
corals, a huge cod & chris found a tiger cowrie shell ( very rare – but he
though it back – eco friendly lad ). What a awesome day, most of the time
there was no one out, the local boys only surfed for about 2 hours, then took
off to the right. Waves were cranking, I
could not
resist it. Awesome classic day as good as it gets. Sailed back to Ille
Lebris totally exhausted. Dinner of snitzel, mash potato & salad. Chris got
into the rum, stayed up late & started to get rampageous with burnsy &
tex.
Day

Monday
23/06/03
Wind: east
Glass in morning then s/e 5-10 knots afternoon
Spent
Night: Ille Puen
Sailed
out to ouano break, low tide, smaller swell 4 – 6 ft but still clean &
perfect with some bigger sets still coming in. All boys went out for the morning
session, had fun. 12.00 pm sailed/motored up to the right but it was small. The
boys had a dive in the lagoon, I speared a mowong type of fish. We then
sailed/motored to Ille Puen. Dyker caught a Spanish mackerel along the way, then
we lost the rapala lure. A excellent mooring there, Tex, burnsy, becky &
myself went ashore to check out the island, a sand mine with a few houses, a
generator some excavators and a barge to move the sand. We found some excellent
shells along the beach. Dinner of green curry & rice. The point was called
Point Mosiman, I know why – heaps of mossies -won't go there again. A warm
night. Fish jumping everywhere as well as dolphins.

Wind:
Glass all day

Night: Ille Ducos
Woke up to find the boys already, a first. Sailed/
motored out to St Vincents pass small 2 – 4 ft. All the boys hit it except
myself, caught up on diary. The water was so clear it was bullshit. I hit it
later, talked to a couple of locals, they are starting a surf camp at st
vincents, oh no ouano as well the place will be stuffed in a couple of years.
Went to Tenia island, a couple of shacks to camp at, some nice beaches, not a
bad place, lots of crays & an oversize morton bay bug. Went for a scuba dive
with becky, it was unreal, lots of fish. Sailed/motored up to ille M’bo for
the night. Dinner of Pasta. Run out of beer.
Day
8
Sailed to Dumbea in the morning, but it was small &
everyone was surfed out so we headed back to Noumea, had to be back by 11.00 am
anyway, so no great loss. Everyone seemed to have a good trip. Got into Noumea a
9.00 am, took the boys back to their hotel and proceeded to clean the boat for
the next trip...
